The 6 th of February was my eighth sannyas birthday.
HASYA OSHO DRIVERS
It was so late that the rickshaw drivers had either gone home, or parked their rickshaw and gone to sleep in them for the night. The party ended late and Lalit and I went back to his place for the night, as it was close enough to walk there from the ashram. She may have been in the hierarchy since Poona 1, but I was glad to discover that she was as mad and rebellious as most sannyasins. I always thought of Garimo as strait-laced but she was all for it. As the party progressed and we got more drunk we all talked of stealing an ashram car and driving to the lake. I met a guy called Arpito Hans, who also knew Anupo and I felt very attracted to him. Lalit knew a lot of the people there, and mixed with the crowd. He was laughing and chatting happily with a drink in his hand. Garimo had a younger brother who was pointed out to me. I think Lalit was an old friend of hers from the Ranch days, but she actually gave me the invitation which was a surprise.Īt the party there were a number of familiar faces from the Ashram elite, but there was also a bunch of just normal sannyasins, who seemed to be old friends from the Ranch days. So as I said before, when Garimo asked Lalit and I if we wanted to come to her flat in Krishna house after discourse for drinks with some friends, I was too flattered to refuse. India was always a place where a bribe worked well, and she was an heiress. Later on the embargo on Osho’s close sannyasins had been loosened and Garimo seemed to be able to come and go from India as she liked. I heard that Garimo had been left to her own devices and had journeyed to Nepal and entered India that way. Nirvano and Amrito were very close to Osho and were taken care of as they organised to enter India. Arup became Garimo, Vivek was now called Nirvano and Devaraj was called Amrito. Osho had finally ended up in Bombay, India in mid 1986 I had heard that Arup, and other people close to Osho like his girlfriend Vivek and doctor Devaraj, were not allowed to enter India by immigration. When Sheela, Savita, Vidya and others left the Ranch in August 1985 some of the demoted mas like Arup and Sushila now got more responsibility and were part of the new hierarchy under Hasya, Osho’s new secretary and Hollywood set member.Īrup had then followed Osho after his arrest and departure from the USA in 1985 when he travelled around the world for a year with an entourage of people, going to Greece, Nepal, Montevideo and other places. I worked with her there for a couple of days, but had been in awe of her, despite her fall from grace.
I remember Arup being responsible for the greeting team one year for one of the Annual World Celebrations at the Ranch. Vidya rose through the ranks at the Ranch, becoming second only to Sheela and Savita in the hierarchy of mas at the Ranch. So during the Ranch years she worked at various middle level jobs ostentatiously not being given the responsibilities of her Poona 1 co-worker Vidya, a South African ma. She was a Dutch heiress, which explained why she could always be around Osho, without having to go off and work.Īrup followed Osho to the Ranch in Oregon USA when he left India in 1981, but Sheela was now Osho’s secretary, and she was not popular with Sheela. She always looked clean cut, even back in the hppy days of Poona 1 which ended in 1981. She was tall and blonde with bright blue eyes. She had been one of the power mas back then who interviewed newcomers, assigned them groups or work and passed on messages from Osho, or Laxmi. She had worked in the front office in Poona 1 under Laxmi, and back then her name was Arup. Garimo was a long time sannyasin who was wealthy and close to Osho. Lalit and me were starting to feel like an old married couple almost! I had been thinking of having a night off, but Garimo invited us to drinks so we went – I was too flattered to refuse.
